Welcome to the Huddersfield Geology Group

Founded in 1995 the Huddersfield Geology Group is a group of amateur geologists who are enthusiastic about finding out more about geology.   We welcome anyone with an interest in rocks and landscapes, amateur or professional. The group’s aims are to promote an understanding of rocks and landscapes within the Huddersfield area and elsewhere.  Where possible we also produce geological information of local interest and help and provide activities at local events, schools and colleges. We meet on the second Monday of the month between September and May for a programme of informal talks.  These take place at Greenhead College in the centre of Huddersfield. See our Talks Programme. We also arrange Field Events both locally and further afield. In 1998 the group received the Lasmo Geological Challenge Award for its book “Rocks and Landscapes of Huddersfield”. For more information about this book see our Publications section. Some of the group’s members are also part of West Yorkshire Geology Trust, which is also produces leaflets and information boards for local sites of interest.
