Talks Programme for 2017-18

Our talks programme runs from Sept 2017 to May 2018. Illustrated talks are held on Monday evenings at Greenhead College, Huddersfield.

Meetings start at 7:15 pm in room M18. Directions to the college are below.

Non-members are always most welcome.

There is a charge of £4.00 per meeting which includes refreshments (or you may wish to pay an annual membership rate for talks of £20).

Mon 11th Sept “Geology of the Island of Anglesey”, Paul Kabrna
Mon 9th Oct A short AGM.  Followed by presentation of some of the Group’s geology maps and a talk by Bob Appleyard on the background of geological mapping.
Mon 13th Nov “Europe’s Lost Frontiers”.  (The project to discover more about Doggerland.) Paul Murgatroyd.  *NB This is a change in title and talk emphasis – 3 November 2017

Mon 14th May This will now be members’ contributions.  Unfortunately Candice is no longer able to come on 14th May – she hopes to be able to speak to us next year. (“The latest news from the Curiosity rover on Mars”.  Candice Bedford.)

NEXT FIELD TRIP

Sunday 22nd April:  Trowbarrow Limestone Quarry (N Lancs.) and Carnforth Ironworks.
(NB Dry Rig quarry etc day cancelled due to snow will now be on 29th July.)

NEXT TALK

The Isle of Mull's fascinating and complex geology will be the subject of Lesley Collins' illustrated talk.
 (NB May's meeting will now be Members' Contribution night.)

UPCOMING EVENTS

Yorkshire Geology Day, Saturday 21st April at the National Coalmining Museum nr Horbury.
We are helping out with activities in the morning - 10.30 start.  In the afternoon there is a series of lectures.
We had great feedback from our session with Year 8 at Almondbury Community School:- "I was wowed" and "I really enjoyed the activities".  We too had a great time!
